So what next?  I am sure many young people have already secured places within their school to study A Levels, a local college, university or apprenticeship route.  However, there may be others who are really not sure what to do.  My TOP TIP is to investigate your options before making a rash decision – talk to your teachers, visit your local colleges, research online AND use the helplines for some independent advice.  Then get that place secured.  If you are willing, you will always find a way to get to where you want to be.

My own route through education was not a traditional one.  Indeed, I left school age sixteen and ventured onto the equivalent of a level 3 apprenticeship scheme in Business Administration.  I decided at the last minute that I didn’t want to return to full time education, so jumped straight into employment to earn and learn part-time instead.  It was a memorable adventure and I learned so much during my 5 years in industry before returning to full time education.  It was during my part-time studies, where I actively enjoyed studying and helping other students that an inspirational college lecturer planted the seed that I should consider training to become a teacher!

Of course, these days many of us have more than one career.  Where you start off is not always where you will end up.  There is always another route to get you to where you want to be.  So … enjoy the journey AND providing you’ve done your research and taken on board some expert advice, the decision you make is likely to be the right choice for you!
